"Albion" - The German Conquest of the Baltic Islands, 1917
Michael Barrett

§   Michael Barrett graduated from The Citadel with honors in 1968 and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Massachusetts. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Germany and is a retired Brigadier General in the Army Reserve. His most recent publication is a chapter in World War II (Dorling-Kindersley, 2004). Professor Barrett is completing a book for Indiana Press on the 1917 German conquest of the Baltic Islands. He teaches Western Civilization, WWI, Hitler and National Socialism, Aviation and Airpower at The Citadel and is Faculty Advisor to the Cadet Honor Committee.





Richard C. Hall
Bulgaria's General Nikola Zhekov
and the German Army

§   Richard C. Hall is the author of Bulgaria's Road to the First World War ( Eastern European Monographs, 1996) and The Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 (Taylor & Francis, 2000). He currently chairs the Department of History & Political Science at George Southwestern University. Professor Hall is a graduate of Vanderbilt, and holds MA and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State. He is a US Army veteran has also taught at the Air War College, and at the Universities of Nebraska - Lincoln and Minnesota State - Mankato.

Joint Planning Between the German and Austro-Hungarian Armies
Mike Kihntopf

§   Mike Kihntopf is a 23-year veteran of the US Air Force who participated in planning for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as well as serving on the battle staffs for the earlier Panama and Grenada invasions. He is the author of Victory in the East: The Rise and Fall of the German Imperial Army (White Mane, 2000) and Handcuffed to a Corpse: German Intervention in the Balkans and on the Galician Front, 1914-1917 (White Mane, 2002). He teaches junior high school in Texas



Origins of the Armenian Genocide
Dennis R. Laffer

§   Dennis R. Laffer concentrates on World Wars One and Two, the Holocaust and genocide. He is a recently-retired physician working toward a Masters Degree at the University of South Florida leading toward a new career in History. Dr. Laffer currently is researching a thesis comparing Turkish denial of the Armenian Genocide to Holocaust denial.

Joseph Meeler
American Soldiers on the Italian Front, 1918

§   Joseph L. Meeler is a retired Army Reserve Lt. Colonel who recently earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Georgia. He is visiting Assistant Professor of History at the University of West Georgia. He is a graduate of Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, and the University of West Georgia, as well as the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, and taught the US Army Artillery School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Dr. Meeler's articles have been published in Relevance and The Journal of the Historical Society of the Georgia National Guard.







Jack Tunstall
World War I and Its Effects on World History

§   Jack Tunstall received his Ph.D. from Rutgers and is currently Professor of History at the University of Southern Florida, as well as Executive Director of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. His published work includes Planning for War Against Russia and Serbia: Austro-Hungarian and German Military Strategies, 1871-1914 (Columbia, 1993). Dr. Tunstall's new books World War I and its Effects on World History (Harlan Davidson) and Blood in the Snow: The Carpathian Winter War (Kansas) will be published in 2006. He is a Director of WFA's US Branch and chairs the committee that awards the Annual WFA-Phi Alpha Theta Undergraduate Essay Award.



The Netherlands in World War One: the Perils of Neutrality
Hubert van Tuyll

§   Hubert P. van Tuyll is Professor of History at Augusta State University, Georgia. He is the author of The Netherlands and World War I (Brill, 2001) and America's Strategic Future: A Blueprint for the New Millennium (Greenwood, 1998). Professor van Tuyll was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, is a graduate of the University of Montevallo (BA Economics, 1974), the Duke University School of Law (JD, 1979) and Texas A&M University (Ph.D. History, 1989).
